Job Description:
The Systems Administrator provides installation, configuration, and sustainment of secure servers, operating systems, and enterprise services supporting U.S. Navy operational and shore-based environments. The role ensures system availability, performance, and cybersecurity compliance in accordance with DoD and Navy policies and standards. Responsibilities include account and configuration management, patching and vulnerability remediation, troubleshooting, and maintaining system documentation. The incumbent supports operational continuity and responds to incidents while coordinating with engineering and cybersecurity teams.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of infrastructure environments—including hardware, applications, network architecture, and cybersecurity controls—to determine risks, gaps, and optimization opportunities.
- Architect and propose tailored technology solutions based on business requirements and industry best practices, including modernization initiatives, cloud adoption, security enhancements, and process automation.
- Formulate and recommend strategic technology roadmaps that align IT capabilities with organizational objectives and drive operational efficiency and competitive advantage.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, standards, and regulatory considerations; apply ongoing professional development to strengthen subject-matter expertise and advisory capability.
- Develop and deliver user enablement resources, including training programs, instructional materials, and technical documentation, to support effective adoption of new systems and processes.
- Partner with client stakeholders to analyze business goals, operational workflows, and technology needs; evaluate current systems and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Provide advanced technical guidance and issue resolution for client environments, serving as an escalation point for complex incidents and ensuring continuity of critical systems.
- Lead the planning and delivery of technology initiatives, coordinating cross-functional teams and external partners; define project scope, schedules, and resource needs to ensure successful completion within approved timelines and budgets.
Required Qualifications:
- At least three (3) years of practical experience in installing, testing, troubleshooting, programing and maintaining communication systems or networks.
- Active DoD 8570/8140 compliant baseline certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE, CISSP, SSCP, or equivalent) required prior to start.
Desired Qualification:
- Demonstrated knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, and NIST SP 800-53 security controls.
- Industry certifications, such as:
- CompTIA Linux+ or LPIC-1 / LPIC-2 (Linux Professional Institute)
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Physical, Work Environment & Conditions:
- Typical office environment:
- Must be able to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods.
- Occasional standing while working in server rooms or at patch panels.
- Must be able to lift and move moderately heavy equipment (e.g., routers, switches, servers) typically up to 30–50 pounds.
- Manual Dexterity required for connecting cables, configuring devices, and handling small tools or components.
- Must be able to view computer screens for long periods.
- Ability to distinguish color-coded cabling and indicator lights.
- Must be able to climb ladders or crawl in tight spaces for cable runs or equipment installation.
- May require walking between different buildings or workstations.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with technical teams and end-users.
- May need to hear alarms, server beeps, or equipment noises indicating issues
