Job Description:
The Staff Accountant maintains accurate financial and payroll records, manages general ledgers and prepares financial analysis reports. Approximately 60% of the time will be dedicated to payroll-related tasks, with the remaining 40% allocated to general ledger activities. Key responsibilities include processing payroll, reconciling balance sheet accounts, reviewing general ledger accounts for accuracy, supporting the month end process, assisting with audits and tax compliance, and ad-hoc projects as assigned. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, high degree of confidentiality in sensitive payroll data and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Knowledge of Government contracting time and accounting processes is required for this role.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Processes timesheets and semi-monthly payroll in ADP and JAMIS adhering to DCAA timekeeping rules and regulations and Federal/State laws.
Performs balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations throughout the month and as part of the month end close process.
Processes monthly journal entries.
Processes monthly depreciation.
Prepares and posts payroll-related adjusting journal entries.
Manages payroll tax compliance, including monthly, quarterly, and prior-period filings across multiple jurisdictions.
Supports internal and external audits by preparing payroll documentation, reconciliations, and audit support schedules.
Maintains employee payroll and accounting setup in JAMIS and validates employee status, terminations, and leave activity.
Manage payroll communications, including maintaining the payroll mailbox daily and responding to employee and HR inquiries.
Prepares payroll-related management reports such as labor utilization.
Updates labor-related data in budget and projection models, including benefits, payroll taxes, and PTO assumptions.
Performs general ledger analysis on ad-hoc projects assigned.
Supports assigned accounting projects and performed other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
Minimum of 5 years of processing payroll and performing staff accounting duties.
Required experience with Government ERP accounting systems, with a preference for JAMIS Prime or Deltek Costpoint experience.
Must live on the east coast with a preference for those in the DMV area.
Knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting.
Familiarity with DCAA regulations is strongly preferred.
Experience in processing payroll in multi-state organization.
Highly proficient in Excel.
Meticulous attention to detail.
Experience with handling highly confidential data.
Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.
Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
Highly motivated to learn and take on new responsibilities
