Salary Band: $170,000 to $180,000

Job Description:
The IT Lab Systems Administrator provides hands-on administration and maintenance of ONI’s modernization lab systems, supporting integration and testing of global network modernization components. This role requires compliance with DoD 8140 cybersecurity workforce standards, ensuring secure configuration, patching, and accreditation readiness for classified environments.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, storage, and virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V) in the lab.
  • Apply DoD STIGs and security baselines to all systems; maintain compliance with RMF controls.
  • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and enforce least privilege access principles.
  • Perform patch management and vulnerability remediation per DoD guidelines.
  • Support system accreditation by maintaining baselines and documentation for ATO packages.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software issues and coordinate with vendors for resolution.
  • Automate system tasks using PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
  • Maintain detailed system diagrams, configuration guides, and change management records.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must meet DoD 8140 Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) requirements for IAT Level II or III.
  • Security+ CE or equivalent (e.g., SSCP, GSEC).
  • Maintain continuing education to remain compliant with DoD 8140 standards.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking, identity management, and encryption.
  • Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Bash) and automation frameworks.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with RMF, STIGs, and DoD cloud security requirements.
  • Expertise in secure system configuration and hardening according to DoD standards.
  • Proficiency in virtualization technologies and enterprise services.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in classified environments.
  • Ability to document and maintain system baselines for accreditation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Advanced certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, VMware Certified Professional, or Linux+.
  • Familiarity with NAWCAD/NAWCWOLF Engineering and operations processes and programs
  • Experience in DoD or IC environments is strongly preferred.

Education Requirements: 
  • Bachelors in Cloud Technologies, Computer Science, or related field (highly preferred).
  • Bachelor’s Degree may be substituted with High School Diploma with minimum 5 years relevant experience

  • Typical office environment:
  • Must be able to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Occasional standing while working in server rooms or at patch panels.
  • Must be able to lift and move moderately heavy equipment (e.g., routers, switches, servers) typically up to 30–50 pounds.
  • Manual Dexterity required for connecting cables, configuring devices, and handling small tools or components.
  • Must be able to view computer screens for long periods.
  • Ability to distinguish color-coded cabling and indicator lights.
  • Must be able to climb ladders or crawl in tight spaces for cable runs or equipment installation.
  • May require walking between different buildings or workstations.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with technical teams and end-users.
  • May need to hear alarms, server beeps, or equipment noises indicating issues
