Job Description:
The Monitoring & Log Management Systems Administrator will support the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) by implementing, managing, and maintaining enterprise system monitoring and log aggregation platforms. The administrator will ensure that all critical IT systems are effectively monitored for availability, performance, and security compliance using tools such as SolarWinds and Splunk. This role is key to maintaining situational awareness of system health and supporting cyber defense initiatives through real-time log analysis and correlation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Administer and maintain SolarWinds for network and infrastructure monitoring, including configuration of alerts, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Manage Splunk infrastructure for log collection, analysis, and visualization; support custom dashboard creation, data normalization, and search optimization.
  • Develop and maintain event correlation rules and alerts to support proactive identification of operational or security issues.
  • Ensure proper ingestion of logs from enterprise systems, applications, and devices, in accordance with DoD logging and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Work closely with cybersecurity and IT operations teams to enhance visibility into the network and system performance.
  • Create and maintain detailed system documentation, dashboards, and operational procedures.
  • Support audit readiness and incident response activities by providing timely log and system performance data.
Required Qualifications:
  • DoD 8140.03-M (Formerly DoD 8570) Information Assurance Technical Level II (IAT-II) certification (CompTIA Security+, CySA+, GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience managing enterprise-grade monitoring and SIEM platforms (SolarWinds and Splunk preferred).
  • Proficient in writing and optimizing Splunk search queries and dashboards.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, system logs, SNMP, and performance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with DoD security and compliance standards (e.g., RMF, STIGs).
  • Demonstrated ability to support mission-critical systems in a high-security environment.
  • TS/SCI clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Splunk Core Certified Power User or Admin certification.
  • Experience with SolarWinds Orion Platform including NPM, SAM, and NTA modules.
  • Familiarity with Syslog, Windows Event Forwarding, and log aggregation pipelines.
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) to automate data ingestion or alerting.
  • Previous experience supporting Department of Defense or Intelligence Community customers.
Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field preferred.

  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance at time of application.
