Job Title: Senior Network Engineer


Job Description:

Responsible for designing network engineering solutions for NATO network interoperability and modernization project based in Norfolk, VA. Collaborates with Project Manager for purposes of coordinating task development, management, and reporting. Position involves periodic travel to Europe.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities 
 
  • Develop an engineering design to be approved by SAF/CDMX, NCIA TPOC, and any other required approvals not yet identified
  • Coordinate and schedule new equipment implementation, validate design functionality, and transition new equipment to sustainment team
  • Apply Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing standards
  • Provide hands-on US gateway standup support including installation and configuration of gateway equipment
  • Recommend network infrastructure hardware and software for procurement
  • Serve as hands-on site installation, engineering, and cybersecurity lead in designated data centers
  • Provide final network design, including hardware and software specifications based on NATO specifications as defined in technical assessment and concept of operations
  • Engage with mission partners within US European Command and the Unified Atlantic Region Network Operations Center to capture in-use equipment lists and ensure connective compatibility with overall NATO Secure Wide Area Network
  • Register, regulate, and control the use and management of protocols in the Internet protocol suite, and associated ports with the Ports, Protocols and Services Management (PPSM) registry in accordance with DoD Instruction 8551.01
  • Establish Gateway interconnection arrangements to include ones for redundancy/failover
  • Procure and establish network transport to connect CONUS and OCONUS US gateways for resiliency/redundancy
  • Establish network confederation between CONUS and OCONUS networks and provide technical coordination with USEUCOM and NCTS/Unified Atlantic Region Network Operations Center (UARNOC)
  • Migrate US user/stakeholder organization’s existing network connection and routing to a US gateway
  • Draft US gateway interconnection instructions to the US organizations and facilitate migration and the initial connection process
  • Other task accomplishment-relevant duties as required

Required Qualifications
 
  • Ten years experience designing network engineering solutions for classified networks
  • Five years experience applying Border Gateway Protocol routing standards
  • Five years experience installing network infrastructure hardware (routers, switches, encryption devices) and related software
  • US passport within 30 days of hiring date
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliant certification
  • CCNP certification
  • Exhibit contemporary managerial qualities:
    • Effectively communicate in verbal and written formats
    • Work unsupervised, independently or as part of a team
    • Ability to work effectively with sponsors, customers, subordinates, users
    • Multi-task among numerous projects
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications

Desired Qualifications
 
  • Graduate degree in IT- or IA-related discipline
  • Cisco Certified Design Professional certification
  • Experience with NATO Architecture Framework
  • Experience using Visio
  • Experience with NATO Secure Wide Area Network
  • Experience working with NATO Communications and Information Agency (or predecessor organization, NC3A) projects

Education Requirements: 
 
  • Bachelors of Science (engineering, computer networks, other IT-related, or cybersecurity/IA)
    • Experience in lieu of degree: additional four years experience designing network engineering solutions

Security Clearance Requirements: 
 
  • Secret
